Visitors insurance can protect you even before you are a visitor. If you have an injury, illness or death in you or your party or immediate family, then this is where your cancellation insurance will kick in. Keep in mind, like all types of insurance, there are some exclusions to your coverage.

If there is a civil disturbance or a war going on in your visiting country or if your financial circumstances change then you will not be covered. This means that if you lose your job or have an emergency that takes all of your spending money then you are basically out of luck.

Coverage is available for weather conditions as well. If your resort closes down or if your trip is cancelled then you will be covered. However if you choose not to go because of the weather but the resort is still open then you will not receive any type of coverage.

There are certain insurers that offer a ‘cancel for any reason’ policy. This obviously will cover you no matter what. Ask your potential providers if they offer this.
