Breast Cancer Prevention: Take Steps In Time
The diagnosis of cancer sends shudders through the sufferer and his or her family. Among many types of cancers, breast cancer is one of the commonest types of cancers seen especially in women. Even in today’s advanced world, there are cases of breast cancer that are diagnosed at much later stage. Obviously the prognosis of the cancer is worse of it goes into metastatic stage, when the cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
No wonder experts believe that early steps must be taken to avert the disease if possible. There are some factors for the development of cancer that cannot be modified and therefore one cannot do anything to prevent the cancer. Advancing age, genetic make up, and family history are some of these factors. However there are certain factors that are modifiable. They include cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, excess oily and junk food consumption, and refusal to do screening tests in time.
Therefore one should avoid eating excess oily food and avoid smoking. Most importantly, the women after forty years of age should do regular mammograms to screen for breast cancer. Early detection of cases goes a long way in establishing firmer diagnosis and treatment strategy. Remember, prevention is always better than cure!
